When the Mind Boggles #1

"i need you to be proactive and close the projects. Why aren't you doing it?"

"In some cases my work is dependent on other people's work. Sometimes it takes a long time to get approval." (To myself: "By you.")

"It is your job to get information. And CEOs and VPs are very busy. Give me an example."

"Currently Peter and I are struggling to get the final approval from the CEO for an article. We've sent him 7 emails in total and talked to him twice."

"Then it's the Three Strikes Rule."

(silence)

"Do you understand?"

"I'm not sure ..." (desperately trying not to get excited over the fact that common sense has re-entered the room and there is a solution that is executable)

"You send an email, you follow up with the second one reinforcing the importance of the task and then the final one."

"And then I make a decision and go ahead so that we don't miss the deadline?" (Enthuisasm creeping back into the voice.)

"No. Then you ask for an extension."
